Silkitoppa sást í garðinum

Silkitoppa, (Bombycilla garrulus) hefur sést her í Lystigarðurinn. Silktoppa nærast á reyniberjum og vitað er að þær éta næstum tvöfalda líkamsþyngd sína í berjum á hverjum degi.

Eftir frost byrja reyniberin að gerjast og verða áfeng og þó Silkitoppur séu tiltölulega þolgóðar geta þær átt í vandræðum með að fljúga eftir stóra máltíð af þeim.

The Bohemian Waxwing (Silkitoppa, Bombycilla garrulus) has been spotted throughout the garden. Waxwings feed on rowan berries and are known to eat nearly twice their body weight in berries each day.

After frost, rowan berries begin to ferment and become alcoholic and although waxwings are relatively tolerant, they can have problems flying after a big meal of them.
